Taken literally, the word renaissance denotes a rebirth.  In certain Native American mythologies the red-tail hawk paints the world's rebirth each morning.  The circle composition ties the environments of sky, earth, and water into a unified whole while the tree arrests eye movement and its branches align themselves to the major compass points.

The landscape is a remembrance of the view from my favorite haunt as a teenager without the evidence of human habitation.  The coloration is a reflection of the Italian Renaissance which gave us perspectival space within an abstract two dimensional plane and allowed the real to become surreal.
