Early Monday Morning
Watercolor 6" x 9"
May 2004

For the first time in 40 years I had the opportunity to spent an extended period of time in my hometown.  This begins what developed into a watercolor essay on going home to Appalachia.  I caught this scene early one Monday morning before folks were up and on their way to work.  I tried for a kind of mixture of de Chirico and Edward Hopper and their feel for the isolation of that hour.
