"Cafe Arles"
copy after Vincent Van Gogh
Oil - 16" x 20"
A gift to my daughter

It's late winter and Orion is in the sky.  This painting was in a show at the High Museum in Atlanta.  My daughter fell in love with it and so she now has my best effort at a replication.

I did it in the comfort of home, Vincent was on site wearing candles on his hat for light to paint by and no doubt shivering from the cold..
Doing copies from the masters is basic for any artist.  You do, however, have to be aware of how time and space are manipulated to conform to their compositional sense and to their style. But then, of course, this is how one learns.
