"Fern Lake - July 29, 2005"
compressed charcoal - 9" x 12"
A gift to the lake's caretaker

This is how I set up to work in the heat of mid-afternoon July when the temperature hits 92 degrees.

As they say, "no sweat!".

I positioned myself on the causeway over the earthen dam to get a view southwest along the axis of the lake.  This afforded me the backdrop of the long range of the Cumberland Plateau marching on into the far distance.

The drawing was 90% complete when I packed it in and left to get dinner.  I completed it later that night from memory and knowledge of the visual physics of places such as this.
