College Dorm Bookcase |
|
|
So the kid went off to college. The first thing that I heard about was all the books that were to be read in the Great Books program. Then it was all the books to be read for Creative Writing and Latin plus the dictionaries. Dorm rooms are really small. A bed, chest and desk and barely room to turn around in. What to do? I built a bookcase, six feet tall, eighteen inches wide and eleven inches deep with a base that's two feet deep and houses a huge space with a hinged lid to hide junk in. The image is a bit warped from spherical aberration. I took two digital shots and stitched them together to make a whole. Still, like a middle-age spread, you have a hard time taking out the bulge in the middle. All that stuff has to come home once a year. The answer was 'nomad'. It all goes together with 42 1/4 inch bolts then comes apart to load flat for the trip back home. While not quite the answer to everything I tried to make it come close. It satisfies Doug Adams' 42 as that 'answer to everything' in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe. After all that's why the kid went to college in the first place, to get the answer to everything. |
