| "Fern Lake at Evening" Oil - 18" x 45" A gift in return for allowing me to fish in such a lake as this. |
| This is a painting to satisfy
a debt owed that I only imagine. The kind folks who live and work here have been personally responsible for the commissions that I've had this year. This is to say 'thanks' for that and the unlooked for hospitality. |
I was to do it my way for a mantel piece 18 inches high and as long as would fit into my car for transport to Kentucky. I chose that time of day when things have settled down for the evening. The lake is totally quiet. There isn't even a wind a blowing. The bass have come out for their dinner in the twilight's glow. By reflection there's one playing the surface right at the front door. |
| The mountains cast their shadow as the sun sets beyond Fonde at the west end of the lake above the wilderness of Tackett Creek. The yellow glow still illuminates Cumberland mountain above the Gap and the reflection of it washes the land in a soft blanket of 'home'. |
