"Decoration Day - Bringing Grandma Her Flowers"
oil  - 20" x 24"
June, 2007
A gift to my aunt with a request
that it be bequeathed to my daughter.

I remember a time when Memorial Day was also known as Decoration Day.
It was a day to remember all our ancestors and to decorate their graves with flowers.
The ladies would spent a couple of weeks in making the flowers from colored crepe paper.
They would be elaborately made for this very special occasion.
Would that these  flowers were of crepe paper but that craft has all but disappeared.

Here I show my aunt and uncle visiting my mom's grave.
My daughter is participating in this pageant for the first time.
And so the baton is passed on to a new era.
With me as the observer, there are three generations represented.
